Take-aways from our weekly Sisters of Liberty class on 1/14/15:

Current Events:  Education remains in the forefront in the media and in our homes.  Pamela Openshaw very succinctly describes the foundational weakness of our current system that has taken God out of the classroom and replaced it with secular humanism in her book Promises of the Constitution (see chapter 12.3).  "Most Americans believe that today's classrooms are free of religious instruction.  They are not.  They are free of Christian moral instruction, (replaced by secular humanism which) has been declared a religion by the Supreme Court."

Guest Speaker: What a special treat to have Utah State Senator, Al Jackson, speak briefly regarding issues and bills that will be addressed during  the upcoming state legislative session.   His clarity on principle and the proper role of government is evident.  Senator Jackson reminded us that it is good to learn but each of us needs to ACT.  Stand up, lead out and make our voices heard.    Thank you, Al, for taking time out to talk with us and remind us to stand on principle, develop positive relationships and make change possible.

Constitutional Studies:  Our introduction today was a short video of an address given by Ezra Taft Benson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and former Secretary of Agriculture at an annual Freedom Festival gathering in Provo, Utah.  The link is included here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxu-zw004jc   This is a sobering yet reassuring message.  Words that stood out to us were "I have seen" , "we ... face difficult days"  "it may also cost us blood before we are through", and "when the Lord comes the stars and stripes will be floating on the breeze".

A review of  Amendments 16-27 concluded our study of The Founders Charter of Freedom, Healing of America Series.  Next week we will begin the 3rd seminar in this series, Attacks on the Charter of Freedom.
